T3.1: Empirical determination of interannual to decadal sea level variations on the basis of tide gauges (P1, P2, P5, P10, P13, P16, P18, P19, P21) and satellite altimetry (P2, P3, P14) on high resolution for the North Atlantic and adjacent European Seas and low resolution globally.
T3.2: Estimate dominating spatial and temporal variations on interannual to decadal timescales and their relation with physical phenomenas like El Nino/La Nina (P2, P5, P14). Interpolate sparse tide gauge data to global grids using advanced extensions to EOF derived from satellite altimetry (P2, P14).
T3.3: Set up an empirical model of inter-decadal sea level variations on the basis of tide gauges and
multi-mission satellite altimetry with high resolution for the North Atlantic and adjacent European Seas and low resolution globally
(P1, P2, P5, P10, P13, P14).
Propagate the decadal variability back in time on the basis of long tide gauge records, EOF and
hydrodynamical models (P1, P2).
T3.4: Determine secular trends in sea level at tide gauges de-contaminated for decadal sea level variability on the basis of empirical model developed in T3.3 (P1, P2, P3, P13, P14, P19, P21).
T3.5: Provide the means for an on-going calibration system for satellite
radar altimetry (P3)
