General Information

The European Sea Level Service and the EC-funded ESEAS-Research Infrastructure project are jointly organising a Workshop on "Observing and Understanding Sea Level Variations to be held on 1-3 November 2004 at the San Gorg Corinthia Hotel, Malta. The Workshop will preceed the ESEAS-RI Project Team Meeting on 4 November and the ESEAS Governing Board meeting on 5 November 2004.

The Workshop offers an opportunity to discuss recent developments in the observation of sea level variations, the analysis of the data and the interpretation of the phenomena in terms of the driving processes. Topics will include the observation of local sea level changes, the decontamination of these observations for particularly vertical land motion, the observation of sea level on regional and global scale, the determination of regional and global patterns in sea level variations on the basis of tide gauge and satellite altimetry observations, and studies of processes causing intra-annual to multi-decadal sea level variations.

The workshop is open for all researchers working in sea level studies or applications related to sea-level. Participation from groups working in other sea-level related projects, such as for example the NASA Sea Level Projects, is particularly welcome in order to exchange information between these projects.
